What to expect
Pregnancy runs about 63 days from ovulation. Natural whelping is typical, but confirm the due date and puppy count with your vet so you know what is normal for her litter.
Managing the coat and the heat
A thick double coat and a warm whelping room can make her uncomfortable. Keep the room within the recommended 75 to 80°F (24 to 27°C) but make sure she can step away from the heat source and lie on a cool floor.
Independent but needs a calm space
Huskies can be restless late in pregnancy. Provide a secure, escape-proof indoor area for whelping and keep other pets out of the room.

Frequently asked questions
How long is a Siberian Husky (Husky) pregnant?
Siberian Huskies are pregnant for about 63 days from ovulation, and most whelp in about 63 days. Counted from a mating date, the normal range is 56 to 70 days, because conception can happen days after mating. Use the calculator on this page to get a date range.
How many puppies can a Siberian Husky (Husky) have?
A typical Siberian Husky litter is about 5 puppies, with a range of 4 to 8. First litters and litters from older dogs are often smaller. An abdominal X-ray after day 50 gives the actual count.
Does a Siberian Husky need a C-section?
Most Siberian Huskies whelp naturally, but any dog can need help. Know your emergency vet before the due date.
What are the signs a Siberian Husky is pregnant?
Around three to four weeks you may notice a smaller appetite, pinker and larger nipples and a clear mucus discharge. Her belly grows from about week six. Confirm with an ultrasound at about day 25 to 30.
When should a pregnant Siberian Husky have an X-ray?
Between about day 50 and day 55. By then the puppies’ skeletons show, so your vet can count them and compare head size with her pelvis.
